Larry Warner has been married for over 40 years to his wife, Donna, and is the father of four children and grandfather of six. He has a varied vocational background, having worked 11 years as a Youth Pastor, 6 years as a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff, and 10 years as the Senior Pastor of a church in San Diego, CA.
He has a B.A. in Biblical Studies and a Masters of Theology. He has been leading retreats since 1980. He has completed a program in Spiritual Formation and Direction at Azusa Pacific University’s Graduate School and a two-year program in Spiritual Direction at University of San Diego.
Larry is the founder and executive director of b which journeys with pastors, seminarians, church staffs, ministry leaders, churches and individuals who yearn for greater intimacy with God by designing and providing spiritual formation experiences which unleash and cultivate holistic development. b was founded in 2005.
He designs and leads retreats and formation experiences for Church staffs, provides spiritual director for seminary students, pastors and missionaries—locally and globally. Larry co-authored a book for Zondervan which was released in January 2007 entitled, 'Imaginative Prayer in Youth Ministry'. Since then Larry has written Journey with Jesus (2010), Discernment, God's Will & Living Jesus (2016), the award winning Journey with Grief (2018), Seeing Jesus with New Eyes (2019) and Awake and Aware 2021. His poetry has appeared in the San Diego Poetry Annual, A Year in Ink, Thieving Magpie, Fine Lines, and Beauty From Brokenness.
Larry takes extended retreats himself at least twice a year, meets with a spiritual director and receives personal supervision for his role as a spiritual director. Larry’s desire is to give others the tools and opportunity to experience a growing and deepening relationship with God and thus become the unique pastor, leader, person God has created them to be.
His favorite places are Big Sur, Grand Tetons and the beach. He enjoys walks on the beach, bicycling (in his younger days he rode across the United States), reading, listening to music, watching movies and being alone in quiet places near water. His favorite color is blue and he is widely known as a connoisseur of hot dogs and cooked chocolate pudding. He has been married for 43 years and has 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
