Together we explore and experience various kinds of prayer in hopes that we will cease to be one who prays and instead begin to become one who is a living prayer. Prayer looks out all the time towards God and stretches towards Him with desire. Prayer is really our whole life toward God: our longing for Him, our “incurable God-sickness,” as Barth calls it, our whole drive towards Him. Prayer is substantially communion with God, and therefore exclusive attention to Him is its first part. Evelyn Underhill Back to Formation |
